Artists' Handmade Holiday Greetings
The Smithsonian's Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture has opened a new exhibition of more than 100 holiday cards designed by artists for their personal use. The collection includes seasonal greetings by Alexander Calder, Pablo Cano and other artists from the early- through late-1900s. Some of them are a bit dark, most make no reference to commonplace seasonal imagery, and all of them bear a certain intimacy, as they were one-of-a-kind pieces intended for a specific recipient.
