Creative Business Structures
Posted by Tricia

Since there's a bit of buzz going on about the December issue cover, I thought you might like to read a bit about the process.

When we started talking about the firms profiled in this issue, phrases like "breaking the mold" kept popping up. My thumbnails were of a logo made out of concrete and a wrecking ball swinging at it. I was dying to cast the cover in concrete, but Megan wisely noted that the concept was DEstructive, not CONtstructive.

So I moved on to more positive ideas working off the phrase "creative buisness structures." That's when the idea of a building with the logo for the windows came in. I made a trip to a model train store and looked for round windows. That would be the factor that would determine the scale. The scale is HN and the cover image is larger than actual size. Once I that was settled, I worked with photograher Hal Barkan to build and photograph this idea.

Love the Cover. I have to ask if the 'W' was constructed Digitally or not?

Good eye! Yes, the W was done in photoshop. Trying to cut and glue the tiny window frames at those angles was a mess. I was going to have to clean up so much glue in photoshop that I decided I might as well digitally recreate that portion of the windows. Similarly, I did use photoshop to even up a lot of my messy brush strokes. The pieces are unbelievably small and trying to paint with a size 0 brush after a coffee and then enlarging the image . . . let's just say the original looked a little sloppy.

Tricia, I didn't notice any digital mistake, I thought it was perfect. I just couldn't figure how in the world it was done without digital help. Thanks for the reply.

I have no doubt that there is a huge demand for education, and a business education is more and more desired lately, as new businesses emerge and new branches and niches are discovered. All this reflects on every aspect of a business, whether it is the starting, with small business funding, or the uprise, with increases in working capital. It's all fascinating, but to get to know it it takes a lot of work and a good teacher too.

I think that in this days all teenagers want to have there own business. For this they have to work in huge companies and they have to learn how to built and manage a business from all kind of team buildings, courses. They have to explore every option. For this to happen they need to believe in them and work very hard.

Looks like a great idea for a front cover.
