How To Have An Idea

The incomparable Frank Chimero decided to devote Fridays to personal projects. The result of his first experiment is a fantastic explanation of how to generate good ideas.

The first result of “Personal Fridays” is a little thing I like to call “How to Have an Idea.” I’ve long given guidance to my students in a few of the methods of generating ideas, assessing suitability, and hopefully coming up with unexpected results. This is just one method to achieve those things (there is no one, true way to do this sort of stuff), but I thought it was time to document the process and share with everyone else. I hope you enjoy it and it proves itself useful.

Yes, I am a little obsessed with Frank Chimero right now. He’s my design crush of the moment.

I needed this. And peripherally, Frank Chimero is one of my top favorites, too.

I’m trying to pick one thing to comment on, but there’s just too much good stuff here. Head exploding.
