The Movie Font
Sure, we've all had fun bashing Papyrus and Comic Sans (heck, some designers even love to trash Helvetica). Now another font comes in for a good smackdown: Trajan. That's right, Trajan: the movie font. Posted by Bryn

Poster Gets Notice Overseas
Deroy Peraza is the man behind one of the many well-designed Barack Obama posters you may have seen this election season. His "New Hope" poster was exhibited in Denver during the Democratic National Convention, where it caught the eye of Cynthia Odier, founder of the Switzerland-based emerging-art gallery Flux Laboratory. Odier tapped Peraza to showcase work from his firm, Hyperakt, at the Flux Laboratory's Dark Room in Geneva. Peraza offers free downloads of the posters (a signed, screen-printed version is also for sale) on the Hyperakt website. Posted by Bryn

AIGA OC Rocks!
A huge thanks to the Orange County chapter of AIGA, which invited me to host a panel discussion about marketing and promotion on Friday evening as part of their annual Ultimate Promo Show. Everyone I met was terrific, and of course I loved presenting with my friends Peleg Top, Steven Morris, Petrula Vrontikis, Michael Hodgson and (new friend) John Travis. Plus, I got to meet in person several folks I "know" from the HOW Forum: Prax, Cal and Sheri. Events

Friday Font Find
Nexodus, by Hungarian designer Amondó Szegi, is a perfect font for Halloween. It has a decidedly medieval feeling and comes with plenty of creepy ornaments, too. Posted by Megan Typography

Designer Laments Rejection with Song
Matt Maxwell may be a self-proclaimed “crappy singer,” but his tune may strike a chord with designers. Check out the designminstrel's video clip dedicated to Client Review. See Video: Client Review Lament SongHere’s what Maxwell had to say: “I am a freelance web designer and I have been writing songs about design, advertising and tech and putting them on YouTube. I am doing it for self-promotion—and fun—and therapy. “I am a crappy singer (which I think makes it more entertaining)” Posted by Jessie Just for Fun
