Got Clutter?
I just think this is the best way to put those extra supplies, just taking up space, to a great use ... Brainforest, a creative agency in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago, discovered a surplus of useful material sitting around when they moved 4 years ago. Instead of pitching or allowing the stuff to accumulate more dust, they donated these art supplies to a neighborhood school, and CreativePitch.org was born for the Chicago area. The idea is to provide working art teachers, who are sometimes battling a budget of $1/student, with materials that they would not normally have access to (quality paper, markers, callage material, etc). How to help? If you live in Chicago, contact Brainforest or CreativePitch.org. If you live elsewhere: donate to your local school, contact creativepitch.org about starting your own local branch location, or donate money to CreativePitch.org to help spur development of their National Creative Pitch initiative. Design According to Massimo
The delightful and erudite Massimo Vignelli has put together 96 pages of design wisdom that he calls The Vignelli Canon. It's the perfect, brief introduction to the power of graphic design and the rules behind it. Thanks, Massimo! Throughout our creative lives we have sifted through everything to select what we thought best. We sifted through materials to find those for which we have the closest affinity. We sifted through colors, textures, typefaces, images, and gradually we built a vocabulary of materials and experiences that enable us to express our solutions to given problems - our interpretations of reality.
It is imperative to develop your own vocabulary of your own language - a language that attempts to be as objective as possible, knowing very well that even objectivity is subjective.
I love systems and despise happenstance. I love ambiguity because, for me, ambiguity means plurality of meanings. I love contradiction because it keeps things moving, preventing them from assuming a frozen meaning, or becoming a monument to immobility. As much as I love things in flux, I love them within a frame of reference - a consistent reassurance that at least and at last I am the one responsible for every detail.
And that is why I love Design.

Piece Of Mind
We always like to hear about creative projects designers undertake to support the causes they believe in:
"A Little Piece of Mind" is a fundraising project curated by Marque Creative.
It champions collaboration, community and the importance of craft and
the artisan. The Marque studios in London, New York and Glasgow have commissioned local artisans to create a series of contemporary quilts from fabric swatches donated by creative leaders like Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier and Stella McCartney, among others. The quilts will then be exhibited in London, Glawgow and New York City and auctioned off. All proceeds will benefit homeless organizations: Shelter in the U.K. and the Bowery Mission in the U.S. Posted by Megan Industry News

Beautifying The Web, One Unicorn At A Time
As much as we love the internets, some sites are just too familiar, too boring, too ugly or too scary to look at. You can just avoid such sites, or you can Cornify them with eyeball-hugging unicorns and rainbows. Bad news? Add a pink unicorn. Can't unsee that nasty pic? Cover it up with a rainbow. Ahhhh, that's better. Posted by Megan Just for Fun
