Just in Time for Spring

My favorite weekend activity is our every-Saturday-morning trip to the public market in Cincinnati. Especially now that the nice lady from Whippoorwill Farm is selling spring flowers, including my very fave, ranunculus. So I loved spotting this clever and green idea for reusing tin cans on design*sponge's fun Weeder's Digest column.

File Under: Lovely

Blogger, designer and papergoods producer Joy Deangdeelert Cho posted on her OhJoy blog about having discovered some of her screen-printed file folders; they're available now while supplies last.

If Joy's work looks familiar, you may have seen it in HOW's extensive roundup of designers who produce handmade/hand-printed papergoods a few issues back. See that article here.

Great Source for Designerly Goods

Megan's on vacation this week; she probably already knows about this site, but it was news to me. Design Public has all sorts of home decor, lighting, kids' stuff, accessories and the like, all with a modern sensibility. I'm loving their collection of outdoor entertaining items, especially now that we've set up our covered side porch at home for spring and summer use. The bent plywood serving tray below is by Urbana Design.

HOW Conference Party: Get Your Weird On

This just in from our conference colleagues down the hall: the Friday night party is all about Keeping Austin Weird. (Thanks to Neenah for again sponsoring the fun!)

Judging by past parties, folks will be dressing to the nines in all kinds of crazy getups. (Remember the White Party in Orlando a couple of years ago?)

If you're looking to funk-ify your wardrobe for the bash, here are a few vintage stores in Austin. Click the links for directions only—most sites don't have their inventory posted online.

Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds
Hog Wild Texas Vintage

Blue Velvet Vintage

Of course, you can also venture to South Congress Avenue (just a few blocks from the conference headquarters) and pick up something fun and local. We especially like New Bohemia Retro Resale and of course Uncommon Objects. The real dilemma is: where to stop for lunch? You'll likely find the HOW gals in the parking lot of Torchys Tacos.
