By The Numbers

To raise money for their scholarship fund, the Type Director's Club will be holding a silent auction of posters on June 11.
Numbers are mighty powerful. But they can also make our eyes can glaze over–especially when the numbers are in the billions and trillions. To liven things up, the TDC has invited a group of ultra-talented designers (James Victore, Strange Attractors, Deb Bishop, Matteo Bologna, and Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich to name a few) to create a series of posters with numbers as their central theme.

Lovely Serifs

Think of a slab-serif typeface, and you think of something heavy, solid, somewhat imposing and maybe of limited usefulness. No longer. Hoefler & Frere-Jones have a new slab-serif face, Sentinel, that really breaks the mold: it's respectable, to be sure, but also approachable and (thanks to an italic variant) flexible for setting body text. Sentinel makes for eye-catching headlines, but it also colors beautifully in blocks of copy. We're big fans.
