8 Ways To Drive A Graphic Designer Mad

# 5
When describing what you want in a design, make sure to use terms that don’t really mean anything. Terms like 'jazz it up a bit' or 'can you make it more webbish'. 'I would like the design to be beautiful' or 'I prefer nice graphics, graphics that, you know, when you look at them you go: Those are nice graphics.' are other options. Don’t feel bad about it, you’ve got the right. In fact, it’s your duty because we all know that on fullmoons, graphic designers shapeshift into werewolves.

More.

Illustrator Mariko Jesse recently created a series of gorgeous line drawings for a Martha Stewart Magazine photo shoot.

Mariko was born in Japan, spent her childhood in Hong Kong, and was educated in England. She studied at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London, where she is currently an Associate Lecturer. Her work celebrates the patterns, colours and textures of different cultures, the mixture of East and West. She especially loves working on the themes of food, interiors, travel and Asia.

First Font On The Moon

Did you know the first font on the moon was Futura? It was used on a commemorative plaque left by the astronauts of Apollo 11 in 1969. I ready this juicy tidbit in a cool series of posts on idsgn called Know Your Type.

Words to Live By

FOH (that's Friend of HOW) Terry Marks just sent a nifty new printed piece full of his own brand of optimism (and great design, to boot). "Keep Calm Carry On" is a collaboration among tmarks design, Emerald City Graphics and Sappi; it mixes quotes about fortitude during tough times with business stats that advocate that companies keep a strong marketing effort during economic downturns. Marks also worked with LINK, the youth outreach program of AIGA/Seattle, to create a mural featuring the motto. See video of the project here.
